When I was starting my business, I was going through a divorce, learning how to navigate single motherhood during COVID, and homeschooling my children because of the pandemic. I had left a very well-paying corporate job to leap into the world of entrepreneurship at what seemed like the worst time in history! Looking back now, I ask myself “What the hell was I thinking?!” Part of this journey was wondering where I should start to get my business on the map and how I could possibly generate enough leads to make the income I needed to put food on the table for my kids.
As I acquired new clients and offered them my services, I learned who I loved to work with and who I absolutely loathed. But I also learned that my dream clients (my avatar), who were mostly wealth management professionals, had similar pain points. They were only depending on referrals and word of mouth for growth. We all know this is NOT an effective growth plan. They all needed something more reliable and predictable. I wanted so badly to build something that could alleviate this problem for my dream clients.
I started asking questions to learn what my clients and prospects were looking for.
Most of them said they were way too busy to focus on marketing but they knew they needed to. Some said that they have no idea how to generate leads. A few said they had thought leadership but didn’t know how to turn that into brand building or lead generation. Others needed a better website and SEO. Some needed help with social media and email marketing.
Many of them said they had no marketing plan at all, or they had a marketing plan but no team to implement it!
I realized that these people were looking for exactly what I needed when I first started my business.
